Cut the Rope was released in October 2010 by the Russian entertainment company ZeptoLab, and as of yet has had over 600 million downloads. It is free to play as an app with Windows 8, but it runs on most modern devices including Windows PCs and the Mac.

Does It Live Up To The Hype?

It is a well made game that is fun to play, and maybe that is all a game needs to become as popular as this one has. The cut scenes are upbeat, cartoony and fun, and the entire game is littered with jaunty tunes that lighten the mood (even if you are frustrated). It is hard to fault such an innocently fun game. It easily beats games such as Temple Run and Where’s My Water.

Is It As Good As Angry Birds?

A lot of people have compared this game to Angry Birds because they are both physics games, and they both have a very similar gaming style and tone to them. Is it as good as Angry Birds? No it is not, but that is not a criticism of the game. It is like comparing going swimming to going skiing. They are both fun, but in different ways. There are people out there that will enjoy this game more than Angry Birds.

What Do You Have To Do?

Cut the Rope is free to download with Windows 8, and your job is to cut the rope and give the little creature his candy. You cut the ropes at a certain time and lead the candy into the little creature’s mouth, but you should also try to collect the stars whilst you are at it. The game is all about timing and planning, and the game has fairly predictable physics, which makes it a little more about skill and less about luck.

Learning the ropes

The earlier levels help you understand how the physics work in the game. They have clearly placed the stars in their set locations because it will help the user understand what happens when certain ropes are cut. It starts out as a very easy game, which is ideal for most players. It builds at a gradual pace into a more difficult and frustrating game. The people that aim to get all the stars in the early levels are the ones that tend to learn the ropes faster.
